1120 Clayton Street - Linda Childs
Built in 1896 this Queen Ann Victorian has been completely renovated. During the process, the most fun has been finding scraps of old newspapers, Lysol bottles, etc . It seems the builders purposefully left newspapers from the time in hidden areas. For example when the stairs needed repair, opening up the space underneath them revealed wood shavings from the hand planing done as well as a section of newspaper dated 1896. Renovating has been a bit of an archeological expedition. The original woodwork and pocket doors have been preserved and while modern homes have an open floor plan, the original floor plan has been preserved because the owner prefers not to share cooking odors with dinner guests who enjoy the huge dining room.
